Performance optimisation and developer training
MY ROLEProject lead, software architect, Unity developer and trainer
As project lead, software architect, Unity developer and trainer, I took responsibility for analysing and optimising an existing application at Insiqht and subsequently training the development team.
The client needed support with slow scene transitions, resource-intensive image display and large tables of production data. I analysed the existing routines and identified the respective bottlenecks.
For scene transitions, I restructured code and loading paths, limited loading to the data actually required and revised loops, queries and data structures. For image content, I optimised storage, compression and display, together with the associated prefabs. For data lists, I separated data objects from their presentation and used object pooling to avoid creating many objects simultaneously.
The specified optimisation targets were loading times below 1.5 seconds for scene transitions, 2 seconds for images and 3 seconds for data displays. These figures describe the targets. I explained the developed solutions to the team in practical training sessions so they could apply the approaches to further optimisation work.
Result: Revised loading paths, image processing and data display, and trained the development team in the optimisation approaches.
