Assumptions and formula

The model uses 160 working hours per engineer per month. Employer cost, lost time, recovery and investment are estimates. The default 75% recovery is a model assumption, not a promised improvement.

Monthly capacity value = team × monthly cost × lost time × recovery. Payback = €62,500 ÷ €9,188 per month.

Recovered time is available capacity. It becomes actual cash savings only when expenditure is removed. Payback values capacity at employer cost and excludes additional recurring costs or a ramp-up period.

Frequently Asked Questions: Tech Debt & ROI

Insights into root causes, the Strangler Fig pattern, and budgeting.

Technical debt accumulates through rapid shortcuts, legacy language runtimes, missing automated test coverage, and monolithic coupling. Over time, bugs multiply, releases grind to a halt, and engineers spend most of their time maintaining fragile workarounds.
